The Big Bear Run 10k 16th August 2026!
Starting and finishing in the beautiful grounds of Askham Bryan Wildlife Park and College, York.
This is an all on road run, out onto the local roads for one very very pretty course, heading through the lovely local villages of Askham Richard and Bilbrough!
Working with Askham Bryan Wildlife and Conservation Park every stride you take will help raise vital funds for Project Moon Bear, our conservation partner dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating Asiatic black bears in South Korea.
Starting and finishing in the wonderful grounds of Askham Bryan Wildlife Park and College.. it's a magnificent finish line btw!
We head out through the incredibly pretty local villages of Askham Richard and Bilbourgh on a fantastic pretty countryside loop.
This is all held on closed roads, it's chip timed, England Athletics licensed and we've loved the amazing support from the local community in helping us bring this new event for 2026 :)
At the finish we've got cake and of course a very very special Bear themed medal, with perhaps a South Korean splash and a nod to our local village friends!
After the event you can go and check out the amazing animals in the Wildlife & Conversation park (included in your ticket, plus you can add on more tickets for your chums)
Askham Bryan Wildlife & Conservation Park opened in 2017, the wildlife park serves as a hub for the local community, welcoming 20,000 visitors a year as well as hosting schools, young people and other local community groups for tours, talks and workshops.
The park is home to over 100 species of mammal, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates – many of which are threatened.
As a member of BIAZA, the wildlife park is part of a group of collections that provide vital education, conservation and research working in the UK and around the world!
Project Moon Bear works tirelessly to rescue Asiatic black bears and gives them a second chance at life.
The bears are also known as moon bears because of the crescent marking on their chest :)
Funds raised from the Big Bear Run 10k will go directly towards:
All critical in ensuring every rescue and rehabilitation is carried out safely for both the bears and the conservation teams working to protect them.
The journey a lot of the bears have had if not always a nice read... but like us, once you know the story you'll want to help!
