Join us for the first ever Big Bear Run 10k, support our Asiatic Black Bear friends!

Starting and finishing in the wonderful grounds of Askham Bryan Wildlife Park and College.. it's a magnificent finish line btw!

We head out through the incredibly pretty local villages of Askham Richard and Bilbourgh on a fantastic pretty countryside loop.

This is all held on closed roads, it's chip timed, England Athletics licensed and we've loved the amazing support from the local community in helping us bring this new event for 2026 :)

At the finish we've got cake and of course a very very special Bear themed medal, with perhaps a South Korean splash and a nod to our local village friends!

After the event you can go and check out the amazing animals in the Wildlife & Conversation Park (included in your ticket, plus you can add on more tickets for your chums)

The event is supporting the fantastic Asiatic Black Bears as part of the rescue programme through the Askham Bryan team and the Project Moonbeam charity.

The bears are native to the mountain regions across many Asian countries. They have been exploited for their bile to be used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for many centuries.

Although the extraction of bear bile was forbidden by law in 2005, bears still remain in small, metal cages. So rehoming these incredible animals is a priority and thats what we're here to support.

Some questions you may ask:

  • Is it an on road event? Yes it is, around 1.5km Start & Finish) is in the grounds of Askham Bryan College, which is internal roads and then it's out onto the road to Richard Askham, looping through Bilbrough and then back to the finish in front of the rather stunning main college building!  (all roads are closed for the event)
  • Do you have a cut off time to complete? Nope, we will reopen the road network after 120 minutes. But if you're not back we will escort you in :)
  • Is it flat? Yup :) (and it pretty much all is... this isn't us fibbing either) So it's not 'pan flat' but nothing we would describe as a hill ... and were from Lincolnshire (well some of us are and some from Yorkshire ... we don't ask them about hills!)  and you can check out the elevation lower on the page... just scroll down. It is an absolutely stunning run route!
  • Supporting the bears? ... yup, they are awesome :) We do this through a donation from each ticket (we're just working out the amount and cost of the event etc), direct donation made by runners when they sign up (100% of this goes to the charity) and providing free spots to the charity for people to fundraise and run in. Plus a big part of what we're here to do is raise awareness of our bear chums :)
  • Is it chip timed? yes it is and it will be licensed with England Athletics
  • I require a guide runner, is that ok ? Of course! ... and your guide will run for free, just add the details when you sign up
